Saw an article from a friend about Erica Walker stepping on a US Flag in front of soldiers (which just seems like an awfully stupid thing to do in my opinion) and I’ve seen a lot more people doing it as some sort of stupid social protest, but I looked up the US code regarding this and you know what it says?

(1) Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.

So, where are all those prison sentences? Or fines? It’s not like there’s no proof, after all they took pictures and posted it on social media!

It’s just, as the daughter of a highly military family, this disgusts me beyond words. How dare they trample the American flag? The one stained with the blood of those that fought and died for this country, for them to live free?

Erica Walker said that “When we step on that flag, we’re stepping on racism, white supremacy, we’re stepping on those things that were erected beside our genocide and holocaust.”

Hate to break it to you Ms. Walker but that’s not what the American flag represents. The American flag represents 13 brave and strong former colonies to England who decided that it would be better to separate from a tyrannical rule and face the consequences than to see their God-given rights taken away. It represents 50 independent but united states, that formed under God, to protect those rights and who work together towards freedom for all those in it’s borders. It represents the blood of Americans that have died for that freedom (the red), the peace it desires in the world (the white), and upon a field of blue it represents the truth and loyalty it always wishes to have.

Has the US always made good decisions? Hell no. But no country has. You don’t see the British teens stepping on their flag do you? Or the French? The Germans sure don’t and they started two world wars. So why would you disrespect your country in that way? Why would you do your country that great dishonor? I am so disappointed in you. Why not use that social fame to actually do something?

And President Obama, I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to be defending that flag, so I’m giving you a friendly heads up to do your job. I’m watching and so far, you’re disappointing me.

Hello world!

Since I try to keep my political and other thoughts off social media to avoid confrontation, I decided (like all of my girlfriends seem to be doing) to put them on a blog. Maybe I’ll be the only one to read them (and my husband who I will force to give an opinion about them) but maybe someone out there feels the same or has something to add to the conversation.

As my url suggests, I am an American. In fact, I’m a proud American. I believe in the great country that the Founders started and I want to go back to that. Alas, it seems in this world like I’m the only one. So my blog here will, yes, mostly feature issues and politics relating back to America or what I think should be done about it.

Am I qualified to do this?

Maybe, maybe not. I did take AP Gov, I guess, if you want a resume. But I also believe that since America is supposed to be “For the people, by the people” that I have a voice that I’m entitled to hear heard, by someone, out there in the world and not just my poor husband who has to hear me rant about these issues for hours.

So, read or not. Contribute by commenting or not. If you’re planning on sending me hate mail though (I’m sorry for whatever I did) please don’t. I am pregnant. I have raging hormones I cannot control. I will cry.

And so I guess I should end my first ramblings there before I go to far. I have plenty I need to ramble about.

Happy reading!
